To the ancients Amethyst was known as a “Gem of Fire.” It was a precious stone worth as much as a Diamond at times. It is the traditional birthstone for the month of February. Ancient Greeks and Romans routinely studded their goblets with Amethyst believing they could not become intoxicated while drinking from such a cup.
